Frequently Asked Questions
How does the crabgrass control work?
Crabgrass control works by forming a barrier over your soil which helps prevent seed germination. This material lasts about 2-3 months. One of the factors contributing to the breakdown of the material is sunlight. You can help prevent crabgrass in your lawn by keeping your mower at 2 1/2-3 inches.
I have the presence of skunks, raccoons, or flocks of birds damaging my lawn…
You may have grubs! Please give us a call.
We do offer a Grub Curative that is applied to the lawn that will control most of the grubs in the lawn but we do not guarantee to get every grub. We can get it below the damaging level.
Why are my services continuing to the new year?
Our services are continuous from season to season. Watch for your scheduled services letter for the next season over the winter. Do not Discard this letter!! Please review it carefully and give us a call if you would like to modify your program. We also offer prepayment discounts and early season specials on this letter.
How often should I be mowing?
You should mow frequently enough so that you are only removing 1/3 of the grass blade. If you are mowing at 3 inches, mow the grass when it has grown 4 inches. Keep your mower at 2 1/2 to 3 inches until your last couple of mowings, then you can lower it to 2 inches. Mow your lawn until it stops growing. You should still be mowing in November as needed.
When is the best time to do aeration and overseeding?
Seeding in the early fall is the fastest way to a thicker lawn.
Seeding in the spring will not allow the use of crabgrass or weed controls which will lead to problem areas in the summer.
Facts about Watering the lawn…
Some general guidelines – Your lawn should receive 1 to 2 inches of water per week during the hot, dry months. Deep watering to a soil depth of at least six inches is recommended. Light watering that merely dampen the grass are of little benefit and can actually harm your lawn. Place an empty coffee can or bucket on your lawn to determine how long it takes to apply 1 to 2 inches of water.
